The silent influence of colours on the human being
COLOURS ARE EVERYWHERE
Our whole existence is filled with the presence of colours: the wonderful colours of nature, the colours of objects in the home, the colours of the clothes we the colours of the walls of rooms, the colours of buildings, the colours of cars and other vehicles we drive past, the colours of books, magazines, newspapers, the colours of scenes in films and on TV, the coloured lights of fireworks, the colours of globes and gift wrapping, or the colours of flowers we give to loved ones for the holidays.
All of these are opportunities for us to interact with colours and come into contact with their effects. This is why it is useful to know what the effects of each colour are on the human being.
WARM COLOURS, COOL COLOURS
From the fiery red of a ripe apple to the deep blue of a clear sky, a whole range of colour shades suggest closeness and distance, intensity and relaxation.
CALD: RED
At the warm extreme, red is stimulating, it lights the flame of desire, makes us feel stronger and full of strength. When it is predominant in a room, it gives the feeling of condensation and stimulation and makes the room seem smaller.
RECE: ALBASTRU
Somewhat complementary to it, at its cool extreme, blue is deeply relaxing and calming, awakens our inclination towards interiorisation and brings out our affectivity. When blue is predominant in a room, it gives a sense of spaciousness, whereby we subjectively perceive the room as larger.
CALD: PORTOCALIU AND YELLOW
Also warm, but more tempered in their stimulating effect, are orange and yellow. Orange is a quintessentially anti-depressant colour and brings out a good mood, while yellow stimulates rational thinking and is an excellent mental stimulant.
RECE: TURCOAZ AND VIOLET
Alongside blue, turquoise and violet are also refreshing. Turquoise is soothing, purifying and refreshing, while violet awakens hope, revives a sense of worth and makes us aware of the spiritual dimension of life.
